Goth Social Night is an opportunity to gather with other like-minded, alternative folks for social activities other than dancing or live music.
We’ve created spaces for a variety of activities, all in one venue, all at the same time.
Witch and Stitch – an alternative arts and crafts gathering where you can meet and hang out with other artists and artisans. Bring a current project that is non-messy/non-smelly, packs up easily, and does not require a hydro connection. Or just bring a sketch pad and draw. All skill levels welcome.
Location: Main Room alcove
Time: 7pm – 10pm
Art & Craft Supply Swap – we’ve rolled our popular art and craft supply swap into this event. Bring any usable art/craft supplies in good condition that you no longer want/need. We’ll have a table available at the craft club for people to leave some stuff or take some stuff.
Location: Main Room alcove
Time: 7pm – 10pm
Cookie Decorating – Decorate your own holiday cookies with Shannon from Sheileen’s Sweet Salutations. Participants will get 6 of Sheileen’s scrumptious sugar cookies and a variety of frostings and decorations to create your own bespoke cookies.
Location: stage
Time: Two sessions – 7:15pm and 8:45pm, limited to 6 people each, sign up at the door when you arrive
Cost: $20 for materials, in addition to admission
Goth Book Club – Moderator Stephanie Quinlan hosts a one-hour discussion on the theme of vampires in fiction. There is no required reading for this book club, but participants should have a general knowledge of the more well-known vampire-themed works such as Dracula, Interview With the Vampire, etc..
Location: Front Lounge dance floor
Time: 7:15pm – 8:15pm
Games Night – Changeling Gaming hosts a board game night with a variety of games and skill levels. Come as a group or solo and they’ll pair you up with other players. Offering a game library including classic, modern and indie games, game demos and guides, and games suited to all skill levels.
Location: Main Room/dancefloor
Time: 7pm – 10pm (arrive early for the most playing time)
Music Discussion Group – DJ Greg Clow leads a listening session and discussion about the influence of David Bowie on goth music and culture, and vice versa. From “Please Mr. Gravedigger” to “Lazarus” with numerous stops along the way, we’ll explore the darker side of Bowie’s music and personas.
Location: Front Lounge dance floor
Time: 8:30pm – 9:30pm
General Socializing – the high tables in the front lounge will be available for general socializing. Come with a group to hang out, or bring your own games, books, etc.
Location: Front Lounge
Time: 7pm – 10pm
This is a drop-in type event. Advance tickets/RSVP not required.
Admission is $5 and covers administrative costs, plus a stipend to each of our activity hosts.
Please support our amazing venue by purchasing a beverage and/or snack. Ground Control offers coffee, tea, bottled water and soda, as well as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer, wine and cocktails. A selection of both sweet and salty snacks by Sheileen’s Sweet Salutations will also be available at the bar. Plus, hot chocolate and hot apple cider drink specials!
Afterwards, stick around for DJ Lazarus’ regular Thursday night DarkWave Retro Lounge dance night. No cover.
Note – Goth Social Night is an experiment, and future occurrences will depend on attendance for our first event. If the turn-out is good, we will do more nights like this in the new year, and will consider adding other/different activities as well. Please come out and support us so we can support the community.
